Hi!  My name is Danalynn ~

I found my path to being a doula in a strange turn of events.

I was adopted into my family as an infant.  My birth mother found me when I was 22 and that is when I heard her birth story . She was very young when she had me and was given no support during or after her pregnancy. Her actual birth experience with me was so horrific for me to hear and I still shutter when I think of the lack of attention and disrespect she was shown.

I had plans to leave home (Raleigh,North Carolina) to move to Oregon to attend a midwifery school in Eugene. After an eye opening trip to Haiti, working with pregnant women and orphans in the village, and hearing my birth mothers ordeal I set off for Eugene to pursue my aspirations to help nurture the mother.
After taking doula classes and beginning my midwifery program, the school closed and I moved onto phlebotomy and nursing classes while working in the emergency room at the local hospital in Eugene. I learned so much and was blessed with a well rounded support group of midwives, doulas, nurses and doctors - all whom believed in the path I had chosen and were more than willing to facilitate my attending births and furthering my education with hands on training.

I chose a few different paths in my medical career but always continued my doula work.

I volunteered at several women's shelters over the years. Each shelter had a mandatory  training program. I spent time with SASS (sexual assault services) that not only opened my eyes to the lack of support these women have, but made my heart heavy for teens and moms that slip through the cracks.

During this time I pursued pilates and yoga and got my personal trainers certification. I am a very active girl and this just seemed appropriate to be apart of my practice!

Over the past 10 years I have learned a lot. I got married and had a child of my own, which added to my experiences.  I was blessed to take a couple months of massage classes after our son was born. That helped relax the whole family!

I have a wealth of knowledge at my fingertips.
